The current Ram HD trucks (3/4-ton and 1-ton) are using a selection of three unique transmissions: Ram 6-speed automatic (code: 68RFE), ZF 8-speed automatic (code: 8HP75), and an Aisin 6-speed. The Aisin transmission has an automatic transmission brake that can prevent you from rolling backward downhill. The 68RFE tends to run at higher temperatures. However, it’s generally seen as the more reliable option. Maintenance schedules recommend fewer visits for the truck with a 68RFE. Aisin Transmission PTOs The CS6 series are Clutch Shift PTO's designed to work well on Aisin automatic transmissions. The FA6B Series PTO moves the clutch shifted output below chassis obstructions for either drive shaft applications or direct mount pumps for Aisin 6-bolt transmissions.

Coding

Due to all of the Coding variants for the 09G transmission it is recommended to use the coding from the original module when replacing the TCM. VCDS will display a coding chart a pop-up balloon while connected to the vehicle.

Special Notes

Aisin Transmission Ram

• It is normal for there to be no explicit instructions or changes on the screen when you do the above procedure other than 'System in Grundeinstellung'.
• If faults are stored in the Engine or Transmission for throttle related problems, the procedure will not be successful.
• The 09G transmission is commonly found in vehicles using the Drive-by-Wire (DBW) throttle systems. In most cases the ECM (Engine Control Module) should support a Kick-Down Basic Settings as described here: Automatic Transmission Basic Settings.
