Synology is often a little slow in updating their plugins, and WordPress is one of them. Fortunately it’s very simple to manually update to the latest version WordPress on your Synology NAS. Download the latest version of WordPress & unzip to a folder Delete the wp-content folder from the new installation folder. My daughter has her own Wordpress.com blog where she posts articles about whatever she finds interesting. A few days back, she asked me if she could have a ISP-hosted Wordpress blog, as she now wants have more control over things like themes and plugins etc. Before investing any money into.

Hello.
I have set-up a WordPress on my synology nas, using the package centre.
This auto installs to my web-server route sub-directory /Wordpress; e.g web/WordpressThis means I access my site through example.com/wordpress rather than example.com
Ideally I would like to go directly to example.com and find my page.
I have setup a virtual host on the nas, pointing to web/Wordpress. However, this doesn’t work, and results in no page loading.
Any advice is welcome as it has been weeks of my trying to fix it. I already asked synology support but the indicated it was a WordPress issue. I also searched thoroughly through the WordPress.org forms and synology forms for similar cases, but couldn’t get anywhere.

I too am running into this problem. I agree that it seems that the account isn’t connecting to the database. Apparently Maria DB doesn’t work with localhost, so one has to be explicit by putting in 127.0.0.1:3306 (or the port you have set for sql). Alternately I have found one that says you should use localhost:/run/mysqld/mysqld10.sock, yet both options aren’t working for me still.
As far as the user account goes, I have created a user who is able to log into PHPMyAdmin, yet when I put it in the wp-config.php file it doesn’t work. In PHPMyAdmin I see that the database doesn’t have any tables. If we can figure out why it isn’t talking with the database I think everything else would fall into place. fp7100, were you ever successful in getting it to connect through your FQDN?

I found that it is indeed Synology settings that were causing the problem. In the Web Station app in Synology, open the PHP settings for your preferred PHP version. There are extensions below, look for mysqli and select that. I did end up having to use the
localhost:/run/mysqld/mysqld10.sock
as the server to get it to run. Radiant driver download. Please let me know if this works for you too.I am having the same problem as users on this blog. I am trying to understand the SUCESS of the previous blog. Did you change the host name in Myphpadmin from localhost to localhost:/run/mysqld/mysqld10.sock WordPress_user ?

HOW TO HOST MULTIPLE WORDPRESS INSTALLS ON A SYNOLOGY NAS starting with george.com
if you’ve previously installed the synology wordpress package, remove it, and delete everything inside your /web folder.
if you have not already done so, install and run MariaDB, phpmyadmin, and Web Station. in MariaDB make a root password, then in phpmyadmin log in with those credentials and make a new User called ‘suzie’ and password ‘password’ and assign that user all Global Privileges.
go to your domain name registrar and make two changes: point your A record for george.com to the external ip address of your syno – just that – and make a CNAME record pointing “www” to your domain name.
make a subfolder in /web called ‘george’
in phpmyadmin, make a new, empty, database and call it ‘george’
in Web Station>Virtual Servers, make two new entries: one for ‘george.com’, another for ‘www.george.com,’ and point them both at ‘/web/george’
download a copy of wordpress from wordpress.org. upload it to /web/george, extract it there, move the contents of the ‘wordpress’ folder to /george, and then delete the zip file and the now empty ‘wordpress’ folder
open the wp-config-example.php file. make the following changes: DB_NAME ‘george’, DB_USER ‘suzie’, DB_PASSWORD ‘password’, $table_prefix ‘grg_’. save this file as ‘wp-config.php’….make sure you change the table prefix to something unique, and of course make a strong password in step 2.
in your new wp-config file, add the following two entries, before the ‘that’s all, stop editing’ message: firstly, add ‘define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’);’ you’ll need this, or 256M, if you want to run woocommerce. Secondly, add ‘define(‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);’. this is important because without it you won’t be able to install or update plugins!
if your DNS change has propagated, type ‘george.com/wp-admin/install.php’ in your browser and follow the setup instructions. database name is ‘george’, username is ‘suzie’, password is ‘password’, db host is ‘localhost’, and table prefix is ‘grg_’. WP SITE and WP HOME are ‘george.com.’
when you get the Welcome screen, set your own username and password for logging into wp-admin.
that’s it. you can now log into the backend of your site at george.com/wp-admin. for fred.com, and dave.com etc, redo numbers 3 – 11 again. This time subfolder ‘/fred’ and ‘/dave’ etc
if you have any problems let me know.
Also you need to make sure that you set DB_HOST to 127.0.0.1:3307 if you’re using MariaDB10, it needs to be explicitly set to this not local host.
And you need to make sure that you check the php curl extension to be included with the php version you are using. In web station go to PHP Settings, click on the version you’re using and hit edit. Then check next to the box for php curl. Without this you will not be able to install or update any plugins or make any http requests from your site, took me forever to figure these 2 out! hopefully it helps someone!

99% there but the final thing that fixed it for me was from HEREGo to Synology Apps > MariaDB
Ensure ‘Enable TCP/IP connection’ is enabled above Port 3307.
Note down Domain Socket: /run/mysqld/mysqld10.sockAnd as comment above.
In Web Station > PHP Settings > Edit > Core tab Search > socketEnter domain socket example /run/mysqld/mysqld10.sock into default_sockets
